For many people, the use of a solarium gives a tan and a feeling of well-being. Unfortunately, excessive sunbathing, both outdoors and in a solarium, increases the risk of skin cancer and other skin and eye damage. This especially applies if sunbathing starts at a young age. In Norway, we therefore have an 18-year age limit on providing solariums for cosmetic purposes.
The Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) is the responsible authority for radiation from solariums in Norway. All solariums for cosmetic use must be classified as UV type 3, according to the European Standard EN 60335-2-27, notified to the NRPA and published on our lists of permitted solarium models. On these solarium topic pages, you will find information for users, owners and distributors of solariums, and for the local authority employees who perform inspections in tanning studios.
